Latent inhibition is “your brain’s ability to screen out stimuli it has already decided don’t matter.” (Quote from this Instagram video)

Last year, I started collecting pieces of metal I could find outside or on the side of the road to make scrap art. I also have been more creative recently. I didn’t know what latent inhibition was until I watched this, but I think the collecting decreased my latent inhibition, which probably increased creativity. Like my brain widened its filter because there might be a piece of metal over there 🧲🗝️🩶

This is in reference to Annie Lennox’s song “No More I Love You’s.”
The song opens with the vocalizations “Diba diba dip-dip-dip, ah-ah.”
The cadence of “dip-dip-dip, ah-ah” is very similar to that of the “bup-bup-bup, uh-uh” vocalizations I use to tell my dog “don’t eat that” while we’re out on our walks.

Create your own challenging math problem!

We often need to test AI assistants with complex and thought-provoking problems to test their problem-solving skills. Show us you can create such a problem below!

Imagine two stakes sticking out of the ground vertically. A person is standing facing stake 1, with stake 2 behind stake 1. If viewing this scene from above, all three are positioned in a straight line. The person is standing close enough that they see a gap of space between the top of stake 1 and the bottom of stake 2.

How far would the person need to shrink in height so that it appears, from the person’s perspective, that the top of stake 1 meets the bottom of stake 2, creating the illusion of a single stake? Alternatively, how far would they need to back up?

The following values are known:

  • Distance from the person’s current eye level to the ground
  • Ground distance from the person to stake 1
  • Ground distance from stake 1 to stake 2
  • Height of stake 1 above the ground

Also, since the tops of the stakes aren’t necessarily flat, you’ll need to know the dimensions of those as well, as shown in the picture.

“A reference I picked up somewhere.” This might be related: when she hears a thought that abruptly ends mid-sentence, she prefers not to pick up where it left off and finish the sentence herself. She’s not preventing it from completing. She just doesn’t know what it is or why it’s there, so seems wise to leave it be. Doesn’t always work, though. Sometimes when she’s focused on something else, it’s like her hippocampus takes over and completes it without her consent.

The wording you used of “leave it be” made me think of this post ⬇️ and how the “audience won’t think it’s realistic if you just leave it like that”

Cats in the pack made me think of Cat in the Hat, and I read a PDF of the book online. I don’t know why, but it was really emotionally triggering for me, especially the part where the goldfish tried standing up to the cat.
